January – EP01/12

Over the years I’ve given myself countless little projects and shared them on this site. Things like reading a book a month, following certain nutritional protocols, doing monthly reviews etc.

This year I’m taking my passion for video making and committing to making one video per month and basically documenting my year as it unfolds. I’ve been thinking about doing something like this for quite a while but have always held back for several reasons.

Some people will like these videos, some people won’t, and most people will never see them, so fuck it.

I love making videos. I’ve been doing it for almost 15 years. As my interests in life have evolved, sharing my experiences through video has always remained. Up until now 99% of the stuff I have put out has been highlight reels. Those videos take forever for me to do (mainly because I can never decide on songs) and by making videos more like this one I’ll be able to capture my memories a little better as well as it being a new challenge for me.

At the moment I’m super uncomfortable talking to the camera and I’ve wanted to quit this project many times during the first month but now I’m committed.

I’m hoping to have each video up and live during the first week of each month. If I’m traveling it might be more difficult but thats the plan.

I’ll have a little write up here to accompany each video and I’m going to put some blurbs and quotes at the bottom of each post that I’ve either taken note of over the month or just some of my own thoughts.

Great month overall. Onward.

Blurbs n Quotes:

The more people around me that get hurt and die the more inspired I am to make each day count.

“We choose to live like monks, rooting ourselves to a home or career and using the future as a kind of phony ritual that justifies the present. In this way, we end up spending ‘the best part of one’s life earning money in order to enjoy a questionable liberty during the least valuable part of it.’ We’d love to drop all and explore the world outside, we tell ourselves, but the time never seems right. Thus, given an unlimited amount of choices, we make none. Settling into our lives, we get so obsessed with holding on to our domestic certainties that we forget why we desired them in the first place” – From Vagabonding

“You don’t need to know where it’s all going.” BJ Miller

If you want to lead, you have to first learn to follow. TF

“External things can’t fix internal issues.” – Ryan Holiday

“There is more freedom to be gained from practicing poverty than chasing wealth.” TF

“If you wish to improve, be content to appear clueless or stupid in extraneous matters – don’t wish to seem knowledgeable. And if some regard you as important, distrust yourself.” – Epictetus

“Just keep moving forward and don’t give a shit about what anybody thinks. Do what you have to do for you.” – Johnny Depp

“Strength is the ability to maintain a hold of oneself. It’s being the person who never gets mad, who cannot be rattled, because they are in control of their passions – rather than controlled by their passions.” Ryan Holiday
