Where do I even begin?
The last couple of days were a lot of fun. Myself and Sara got a ride up to vermont Friday evening with Jason who works for the spartan race. He is an ex-ironman athlete turned ultra endurance athlete. He actually lives in Pittsfield full time and trains on the mountains at his doorstep.
Of the 22 guests for the weekend Sara and I were the first to arrive at 8pm and seeing as I had been up since 4:30am I was pretty tired so we went to bed before everyone else arrived.
Saturday morning when everyone got up there was a lot of meeting and greeting. Boxes were represented from New Jersey, Malibu, San Diego, Virginia beach, New York as well as a few more places I am sure I’ve left out. Right off the bat everyone started ‘talking shop’ and I felt in my element. It was so refreshing to be around so many like minded people.
After breakfast we all assembled and were given the choice to go snowshoeing or go to a Bikram Yoga class. The majority of choose the snowshoe. This was my third time ever wearing showshoes so I was excited to get a little more exposure on them. It was Sara’s first time and what better way to break them in than by doing a 3 hour hike!
It took us just over an hour to make it to the top. The route we took was filled with twists and turns which were quite challenging at times but for a bunch of CrossFitters it wasn’t a problem.
Coming down was a lot more fun as myself and Sara were letting our group get a head of us then we attempted to sprint down the hills after them.
I don’t know what our guide was thinking but somehow our route back down the mountain took almost twice as long as the accent. None of us complained but it did seem very long and by the time we got to the bottom we were all ready for food and warm drinks.
The agenda for the afternoon was to have a roundtable discussion on how the Spartan race could benefit CrossFit and Vice Versa. There was a lot of topics discussed in the meeting which were all very interesting but the main ideas which came to the top were
1- To have Pittsfield as a resort type destination for CrossFitters and
2- To possibly open a very unique CrossFit box in the town.
Saturday evening during dinner Joe (the owner of pretty much everything in Pittsfield) suggested that we go sledding. Seeing as I had never been sledding (ever) I jumped at the idea.
9 of us ventured back up the mountain without snowshoes on a different route than we did earlier in the day. It took just over an hour again to make it up the 3 miles to the top. It was worth every second for the thrill of sledding back down the 3 miles of trials. We had to stop a lot because some areas were not packed enough to make it down on the sled.
Awesome awesome awesome night.
On Sunday we all did Bikram yoga. I’ve done it a few times before so I knew what was involved. A lot of heat and 90mins of focus. i’m not used to trying to focus on anything for that length of time so keeping my head in it was a struggle but it was well worth it in the end. Very challenging.
I’ve said it a hundred times since staring this blog that I want to do yoga more so for today I’ll leave it at that. 🙂
Really fun weekend and I’m looking forward to my snowshoe 1/2 marathon in 3 weeks time.
