Typical for a day like today, I woke up extremely sore. I had pretty good DOMS in my hamstrings and low back which is a good thing in general but not for today as I am racing.
For whatever reason last night I squatted down to pick something up and got a sharp pain in my right knee. I’ve never had it before. It was pretty achey all night and I iced it for a little this morning in prep for the race. I think it my have been just because of the hammering I have given my legs this past week but I will be mindful of it for the next few days.
During Tough Mudder and the Death Race I had pretty bad knee pain when coming down hills but I can’t recall if it was my left or right (of course).
I was super excited to not only be doing the Spartan Race but to be doing it with my wife and 8 other members from our gym.
I had no idea what to expect about the course other than it was going to be a tough 3 miles. I hoped and expected nothing less and I wasn’t disappointed.
I have an edited down video of the race below showing some of the obstacles. It was awesome. Very challenging and very enjoyable.
In comparison to the Tough Mudder I would say it was a more condensed version without the cold element which made it actually fun.
Joe Desena (owner of Spartan and Death Race) saw I was at the starting line and made our whole heat do 30 burpees before the start which was pretty funny. He gave the gym a shout out which was a nice touch but of course he pronounced it wrong (common mistake)
Either way it was nice to be given some recognition from him. I’m sure he’ll have more bullshit for me to do next year at the Death Race.
Food of the Day
6am – 5 eggs, 1 piece of bacon, mushrooms, broccoli
9am – 5 eggs, mushrooms, onions, broccoli
Throughout the rest of the day I was eating jerky, nuts + dried fruit.
I had a steak salad for dinner and a bunch of beers and paleo friendly treats at Thoms house.
